    Call for Papers, “Queer Journeys” International Conference, University of Innsbruck, 14-15 November 2025

    This two-day conference will consider the diverse ways in which journeys undertaken by LGBTQ+ people have been represented in North American literature and culture, as well as how queer journeys interact with and impact social structures, transnational relations, and cultural forms. We welcome papers that analyze queer journeys in and across a range of media (including literature, film, television, performance, video games, and other digital media). We particularly invite interested participants to approach the subject from intersectional and transnational perspectives.

    In advance of the 2025 AGM (which will be held at the University of Hertfordshire on Thursday April 24th 2025), elections will be held for various posts on the 鶹AV Executive Committee. Deadline for nominations: March 24th 2025 (see more for further instructions).

    26th Annual Conference of the Scottish Association for the Study of America – University of Edinburgh – March 1, 2025

    The Scottish Association for the Study of America (SASA) was formed in 1999 to encourage the study of the Americas in Scotland. This year, SASA’s annual one-day conference will take place at the University of Edinburgh on March 1, 2025. Registration is now open.

    CFP: ‘Archive and Preservation’, Postgraduate Colloquium, University of Sheffield

    For the upcoming School of English Postgraduate Colloquium at the University of Sheffield on Friday 30th May, we aim to examine and engage with notions of ‘Archive and Preservation’. This conference seeks to explore unconventional archives and methods of preservation in numerous forms within the humanities. We encourage submissions from postgraduate researchers from all disciplines of English, or from the faculty of Arts and Humanities (if relevant). The deadline for submissions is 5pm on Friday 14th March.

    Sand Rush: The Revival of the Beach in Twentieth Century Los Angeles

    Join Michell Chresfield (Cornell), Katharina Motyl (Mannheim), Oussema Othmeni (Sousse), Myka Tucker-Abramson (Warwick), and author Elsa Devienne (Northumbria) in conversation about her recent, award-winning book Sand Rush: The Revival of the Beach in Twentieth-Century Los Angeles. We'll be talking, among other things, about what the iconic and much filmed shoreline of a coastal metropolis can tell us about the urban past, present, and future.
